DIY: Collage chair

When refurbishing furniture, it's important to remember there's more to life than simple spray paint or varnish. This DIY is all about proving that.

Summer Wishlist #3: Black Shorts (+3 looks)

Though summer's already halfway, there are still some items we would like to appear in our closet. Number three of the summer wishlist series: Black shorts.

Marrakesh Shoplog

Last week I went to Marrakesh with my mom (article about the trip on its way!). Here's the stuff I (or we) bought for myself (ourselves).

Mac Technique + Shoplog

After a long time we finally found a moment to do this: the Mac Technique sessions. My boyfriend's sister, his brother's girlfriend and me went to the Mac store in Ghent this morning to get some more know-how about make up.

How architecture grows

Last week I went to see the Junya Ishigami-exhibition in Antwerp ( 'How small? How vast? How architecture grows' at the Singel) and I loved it.
Vorige week heb ik de Junya Ishigami tentoonstelling ('How small? How vast?

Inspiration: Jewelry Storage

I'll be honest with you, I'm not much of a DIY'er... I loooove to stroll on Pinterest and blogs in search of cool DIY-projects, and I like a lot of them, but somehow it never happens that I actually do them myself as well. My argument is that I never have time, but it might be that I think I don't have the time or that I just don't make time for it.
But I should, it's fun, it's (often) cheap and satisfying. At the moment I'm looking for a good way to store my jewelry. I don't own something big enough and with a clear overview in/on which I can store my stuff. So I did some pinning for inspiration, not all DIY and certainly no very hard DIY's. All pictures are from Pinterest and collected on this board.

Picture above: I like the variety of storage ways, which keeps it playful but still neat.

Summer wishlist#2: the statement jacket

Although  summer already has me dreaming of endless parades of summer dresses, I must face up with the reality that is the Belgian weather: it's gonna rain, and probably a lot. Add some chilly days to this and you'll understand why a jacket is indeed a good buy. My preference goes out to a statement jacket in some over the top print. Why I love this?
It's just plain easy; if chosen right it can even make a Jeans and T-shirt-combo look exiting. Look further for some 'how to wear' isnpiration.

Outfitpost: Silk & Silver

Wearing one of my favorite tops, a treasure found on the latest Dries Van Noten stocksale. The faux leather jacket is already one of my best spring-buys, and I'm verrrrrry glad I can finally wear this one instead of my winter coat. The weather even let me wear these open shoes!

Summer wishlist #1: White Shirt (+3 looks)

Font by Brittney Murphy - downloaded on dafont.com

The nr. 1 item on my wishlist for this summer is without any doubt a white shirt. I've already been looking for the perfect one since last year. Here's 5 of my favorites that are out there on the Internet. I already own a white shirt, but that one is very feminine and has a distinct fit, which doesn't allow me to combine it with too much.

A compact guide to refurbishing old furniture

There are two reasons I chose to make a guide on this topic; the first one is that I experienced myself that these things are not as easy as they seem. Although it seems very obvious you'd have to use steel sanding paper to get rust of steel, it would've never occured to me if no one had told me this. The second reason is that in this way I wont have to repeat the first steps over and over again in other DIY's (I'm thàt lazy). I'm also hoping that as my skils grow, this guide will become more extensive. So it's actually a work in progress.

Perking up the apartment

Last summer, my boyfriend and I moved into an (absolutely lovely) apartment. We decided to do a summer job and put some money aside for buying stuff for our new home. We already had the essentials because we both lived in a student room before, but now it was gonna be bigger an it had to feel like a real home.

Geometry Guidebook

One of the things I love this season is the geometrical trend, which is extra powerful when executed in blacks and whites (or cream like textures, as I prefer). It's definateley a good idea to draw inspiration from Sol LeWitt's works, the unofficial master of lines and stripes . I prefer the combination of geometrical shapes (lines, stripes, grids, triangles,... you name it) with a collage like-feel; twisting patterns, different  materials, contrasts... etc etc, a bit similar to what Giedion Kiefer accomplishes in his drawings.

1. Leggings with triangles, Filles à papa
2. Plaster object, DIY project by A Beautiful Mess
3. Silver necklace, Jutka en Riska
4. The Trümmerfeld Check Up by Gideon Kiefer
5. Collage scarf Seascape, Arlette Ess on Boticca
6. Striped black and white blouse, ROMWE
7. Form Derived from a Cube by Sol LeWitt
8. Mesh Heels, COS

Chocolate and Coffee Cupcakes

There's something about the combination of coffee and choclate in this cupcake that just keeps me wanting more. The bitterness off the cake is perfectly outbalanced by the  sweetness of the dark chocolate. Not only is it extremely yummy, it's also a very easy and quick recipe.

Starstruck

Although the galaxy-hype might have passed its peak, I keep on liking this print. Somehow I felt like minerals would fit perfectly in the galaxy-theme. I find these stones fascinating and extremely beautiful both as homedeco as as jewellery.

1. Fashionology Lapis Lazuli necklace
2. Bardot Cosmic fade top
3. Urban Outfitters Galaxy bra (out of stock)
4. Amethyst (try your luck at flea markets)
5. Ceek Mineral stone ring

1. Fashionology Lapis Lazuli halsketting
2. Bardot Cosmic fade trui
3. Urban Outfitters Galaxy bh (niet meer verkrijgbaar)
4. Amethyst (probeer eens op rommelmarkten)
5. Ceek Mineral stone ring

DIY: Open season

Cardboard taxidermy has been quite the rage and it's rather easy to do yourself, so why not give it a go?
This tutorial is based on a great 'how to'  by J3443RY on Instructables, that we  loved, but we missed an extra something; a season-appropriate update. The classic mounted head has a certain wintery feel to it, even if it's the fake cardboard version . This is where the wrapping paper comes in. Besides being plain cute and summery, it also allows you to use lower quality materials,  e.g. the slightly filthy box your Ikea couch came in, and it doesn't require the same level of handiness a wooden version does. I'll cover the first few steps a bit quick, as they are explained quite well on Instructables.
